Velvet Glove Tasting Notes

For grapes to be included in Velvet Glove, they must score over 95% on our "fruit weight" scale. To score this high, the grapes must come from a selected vineyard and must be grown according to the Marquis Vineyard Watering Programme™. With good luck from Mother Nature if all goes well, we believe we can make a memorable wine.

In 2006 we were lucky enough to have all three, the magical Gateway Vineyard, Toby Bekkers (McLaren Vale Viticulturalist of the Year) and Daniel Libovich looking after the watering, and the God of the weather on our side.

We have, in the past, had four wines which have scored 99 points from Robert Parker in the Wine Advocate newsletter. In our Mollydooker grading tastings we rate this wine higher!  "The Mollydooker 2006 Velvet Glove is quite simply the best wine we have ever made." - Sparky Marquis

Sparky repeated these words on camera at Cask 591 in Long Branch NJ at the 2006 portfolio tasting. The packed house agreed! When I tasted the Velvet Glove it was much smoother and richer that I would have guessed. Sometimes big Australian wines can be overpowering when young but NOT the Velvet Glove.

The 2006 Velvet Glove shiraz was amazingly smooth, concentrated and rich with a lingering finish that lasts for minutes. I strongly recommend that you get a bottle of this wine for your collection before it gets reviewed by the wine press.
