2009 Mollydooker Velvet Glove Shiraz Receives 99/100 Points

Wine blogger, Brian Pasch, shares his review on the first taste of the 2009 Mollydooker Velvet Glove Shiraz on Corkd.com.

After what many winemakers are referring to as an excellent growing season in Australia, the Mollydooker winery shared their entire 2009 portfolio of Australian wines with wine blogger Brian Pasch.  Pasch visited the Mollydooker winery in April 2010 for the exclusive opportunity to be the first to taste and review the entire 2009 Mollydooker portfolio.

First on the review list from Pasch was the 2009 Mollydooker Velvet Glove Shiraz and his full review is posted on Corkd.com.  Part of what makes Mollydooker Wines so unique is that their portfolio can vary based on the quality of fruit harvested.  The vineyard fruit is scored based on its Marquis Fruit Weight™ score.Velvet Glove Wines are only produced from vineyards that have a 95% Fruit Weight score.

According to Pasch, the 2009 Mollydooker Velvet Glove Shiraz exemplifies Mollydooker’s talented winemaking team of Sarah and Sparky Marquis.  Pasch added, “What makes the 2009 Velvet Glove Shiraz near perfect is the amazingly rich, velvety texture that has a finish that goes in your mouth for over 30 seconds. I have tasted all the past vintages of the Velvet Glove and this could be the very best ever made.”

Previous vintages of the Velvet Glove received praise with notable wine reviewers Jay Miller at the Wine Advocate and Harvey Steiman at Wine Spectator.  The 2007 vintage received 98 points by Jay Miller and 96 points from Harvey Steiman.  The Velvet Glove was also chosen as one of the “Editor’s Most Exciting New Wines”. The 2006 vintage was awarded 99 points by Miller and 97 points by Steiman.

This is one wine that is bottled as beautifully as it goes down.  To honor the beauty and individuality of the Mollydooker 2009 Velvet Glove Shiraz, it is sealed in a unique bottle that is branded with a real velvet label printed in silver foil, and then placed in a gorgeous velvet bag embroidered with silver thread.

Brian Pasch is releasing all of his notes from his exclusive tasting of the 2009 Mollydooker Vintage.  Consumers can also join Pasch’s online wine community to learn more about each wine at http://www.weloveshiraz.com/
